- ML_Writer/Multi-Lingual is a easy to use Multi-Font Word Processor.
- Ten Fonts are supplied, plus you can customize your own font or
- Language with the supplied Font Editor.
-
- If you produce a new font or language character set and would like to
- submit it for review, and if we use it in upcomming version of
- ML_Writer/Multi-Lingual Word Processor
- we will send you one free update of the next version.
-
- The display is a full 80 columns wide by 24 lines high
- Most commands are on the Menu, the keyboard commands are referenced
- on the menus.
-
- The Maximum column number is 260 ( we don't have a printer for this ).
-
- Memory size is dependent on your system configuration. For an Atari
- 520 ST the approximate size is 260,000 characters, with the
- Atari 1040 ST approximate 780,000 bytes are available.
- Click on Status or shift function key F4 to find memory available.ó

- If the cursor is hidden, then pressing any key will show the cursor
-
- Holding down the right mouse button will move the cursor
- If the keyboard is displayed, holding down the right mouse button will
- put characters on the screen at the location of the cursor.

- If you wish to create a blank screen, a quick way to clear the screen
- is to Click on OPEN or Shift-F1, then CANCEL in File Selector box.

- General recommended proceedure for handling of word processor
- documents recommends backing up to disk every 15 to 25 minutes,
- and then backing up to another disk every 2 to 4 hours of
- editing.ó

- a new search on the directory, clicking on the upper diamond will
- move up one directory.

- If you change the directory display and hit the return. it will
- take the new change, but search for no file.
- Warning - do not use the Underline '_' symbol in the directory
- description - there is a problem with GEM here.ó

- File Size in Editor: - this is the number of bytes your current
- edited file is in the memory. When saved to disk, this will
- be the size on the disk directory.

- Bytes Available: - this is the number of bytes available in
- in the memory for additional characters in your current file.

- Some Notes:
- - When ML_Writer is loaded it grabs all memory
- available, except 15k which is reserved for desk
- accessories, file selector box, and other processes.
- Since the Atari ST is not a multi-user system this
- should be no problem.
- - In order to display the various language font
- characters, control characters are inserted in the
- file, therefore some files may seem larger than the
- actual characters that appear on the screen. The
- file font-structure is very conservative of extra
- control characters, they exist in the file only
- before each change of language font, and not before
- every character. A clean up utility combines redundant
- or unnecessary control chacacters to conserve file
- space.ó

- Number of Lines: - this is the number of lines in the current
- edit file.
-

- Be sure to format your document before printing, what you see on the
- screen is what you get.

- Printing Notes:
- - if you are printing any text other than English, and not in
- graphics mode, as soon as the program comes to the first
- non English font a dialog box will come up as follows:ó

- And cannot be printed in draft mode"

- Stop - will stop printing.

- Continue - will continue printing, with non-English

- Background - Edit screen background color
- default is blue.
- Letters - Edit Screen character color
- default is bright white.

- Dialog Box - Color of most Dialog box borders
- Also color of line at top of screen seperating

- Some popular color combinations for Background/Letters are:
- green/black white/black black/white
- cyan/black white/bright green

- Besure to choose a different color for each of the four.
- The program will prevent you from choosing the same color for
- all four, since the screen information would be unreadable.

- The available color combinations are:
- Black, White, Red, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, Magenta

- All except Black have two choices of intensity:
- Normal(Bright off) and Bright (Bright on)

- 9. Clicking on "Quit", or using Keyboard shift F9
- If present changes to the current file are saved the
- program exits to the operating system.

- If the present editing is not saved a dialog box will appear

- 1. Clicking on "Top of File", or using Keyboard F4
- Moves edit screen to the top of the file with line
- one displayed at the top of the edit screen.

- 2. Clicking on "Bottom of File", or using Keyboard F5
- Moves the edit screen to the bottom of the file.
- with the ----- End of File ------ prompt near
- the middle of the screen.ó

- 3. Clicking on "Screen Forward", or using Keyboard F6
- Moves the Screen forward in the file so that the
- line displayed at the bottom is now at the top.
- The program adjusts the number of lines moved in
- the file so that if the Keyboard is displayed it
- will move less lines.ó

- 4. Clicking on "Screen Backward", or using Keyboard F7
- Moves the Screen backwards in the file so that the
- line displayed at the bottom is now at the top.
- The program adjusts the number of lines moved in

- Moves the screen 60 columns to the left.
- If the left most column on the edit screen is 60
- then after this command the left edge will be on

- If the left most column on the edit screen is 60
- then after this command the left edge will be on

- Displays dialog box, default option is FindWords
- FindWord(match case) searches forward in file
- FindWord(ignore case) searches forward in file
- ignoring upper or lower case.
- Also includes find line which goes forward or backward in file

- Note that end of phrase is delimited by '_' symbol
- ESC key will clear out dialog box text.

- There is no Search and Replace in this version, but you will
- find that using Find Next with the record/playback feature

- be marked. The program will switch the start and end
- point if the start is marked in the file after the
- end point.

- Copies in at the location of the Cursor the portion
- marked as described above.

- 4. Clicking on "Move", or using Keyboard Control M
- Copies in at the location of the Cursor the portion
- marked as described above, and then deletes the portion

- Deletes the portion marked as described above.
- Note: the portion is still in the block buffer
- and can be copied in at any time or as many times as
- you need just click on "Copy".

- Cancels the Block Mode; it does not delete the
- portion of your text in the block buffer.

- contains the marked text, and can be inserted into the

- 3. Key in the changes, using any keys including delete or backspace
- 4. Use Find Next or shift F10 to get next.
- 5. Toggle Record Mode (click on Record) to terminate record
- 6. Use playback to change each occurance ( Control P )

- Makes a second copy of the existing cursor line.

- available it will default to the English character set for that font.

- If you expect to remove the disk with the font files, then before
- ij you remove it, click on the Languages you will be using, this will
- ij cause the Language fonts to be loaded. This is only necessary for

- 1. Clicking on "Open", under the File Menu heading
- will bring up a dialog box for you to specify the font
- type ( 8 x 8 or 8 x 16 ), then it will bring up the file
- selector box as described above in the word processor.

- 2. Clicking on "Save", under the File Menu heading
- will bring up the file selector box as described above in
- the word processor.ó

- 3. Clicking on "Backup", under the File Menu heading
- will bring up the file selector box as described above in
- the word processor.ó

- 4. Clicking on "Quit", under the File Menu heading
- If present changes to the current file are saved the
- program exits to the operating system.
- If the present editing is not saved a dialog box will appear
- as described above in the word processor.

- 5. Clicking on "Erase", under the Erase Menu heading will cause
- all pixels to become light. ( Keyboard F9 also does the same )

- 6. Clicking on "Fill", under the Erase Menu heading will cause
- all pixels to become dark. ( Keyboard F10 also does the same )

- 7. Keyboard function key F1 will allow you to convert a 8 x 8
- font to 8 x 16, by expanding the pixels and filling in.
- If you need to do both a 8 x 8 and 8 x 16 font this will save time
- by allowing you to create a 8 x 8, then convert a copy to 8 x 16,
- then the 8 x 16 can be edited for fine detail.
